Walking Tours:
City Park
- Between Colorado Boulevard and York Street, along 17th Street, City Park is Denver's largest public space, with rose gardens, lakes, a golf course, tennis courts, and two of the city's most popular attractions: the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Natural History. A shuttle runs between the two.
Civic Center
- Lawns, gardens, and a Greek amphitheater form a serene backdrop for the State Capitol, which was built in 1894. It was constructed mostly of materials indigenous to Colorado, including marble, granite, and rose onyx. Denver Mint
- Officially known as the United States Mint, this is the source of all coins marked with a D. You can tour the facility where more than 5 billion coins are stamped yearly. W. Colfax Ave. and Cherokee St., tel. 303/844-3582. Closed weekends. *Note: A tour date must be confirmed through your Congressman before you may take a tour.
Denver Zoo
- In City Park, the zoo has a nursery for baby animals and a polar bear exhibit where visitors can watch the bears swim underwater. E. 23rd St. between York St. and Colorado Blvd., tel. 303/331-4110. Admission charged
