Pippin At Denver Center For The Performing Arts
What goes around comes around. That old adage certainly pertains to Broadway shows, which come and go and return time and time again. At least the good ones do. One of the biggest hits from the 1970s was “Pippin,” the story of a young prince who sets out to seek meaning in this crazy thing called life. The musical, which won a Tony Award when it first appeared in 1972, was directed by Bob Fosse with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. Well, the show was revived on Broadway in 2013 and came away with four Tony Awards, not the least of which was Best Musical Revival. You’ll have a chance to see this new version at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts between September 6 and September 20, 2014.

And what a new version it is. It stars Lucie Arnaz, who is the daughter of Lucille Ball, one of the top TV comedians of all time, and Desi Arnaz, the incomparable Cuban bandleader, actor, and producer. Lucie began her career in her teens on her mother’s sitcom, “Here’s Lucy,” and then went on to star on Broadway in such shows as “They’re Playing Our Song,” “Lost In Yonkers,” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” Also in the cast is John Rubenstein who appeared in the original Broadway production as, you guessed it, Pippin. The musical is upbeat and features a slew of toe-tapping songs, such as “Magic to Do,” “No Time at All,” “Corner of the Sky,” and” Love Song.” Celebrate the return of this show that celebrates life by getting tickets online at www.denvercenter.org/shows/specific-series/Get?Id=c20cd677-cdec-68a4-921b-ff0b004d5814.
