Looking for something fun to sink your teeth into but also to really make you think here in Denver? Check out the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art up on Delgany Street, just minutes from us here at the Holiday Inn Cherry Creek. This modern museum takes the best art happening in the world right now and piles it into one excellent package that has become a favorite of both art fanatics and regular folks alike.
Founded in 1996, MCA now occupies a 27,000 square foot environmentally sustainable space in downtown Denver. There are a number of great exhibitions happening right now, including Nathan Carter's Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet the Dramatics - an impressive installation of sculptures and drawings set atop miniature stage sets. The exhibit creates an imaginary band made up for four women.
A whole world is dreamed up centered around the fictional band - from their earliest incarnations, to their first practice, mainstream breakthrough, and final show together in Paris. The attention to detail that the artist pays is impressive, creating a full and complete backstory with objects such as merchandise and history to back it up. It's as if you're in a rock n' roll museum reading the true accounts of famous bands and artists.
There are also a ton of great events happening at the museum throughout the year. Check their calendar for more information. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays with varying hours. Adult admission is $8 ($5 after 5PM Tues-Friday). We'd definitely recommend it for those looking to check out something a little different while in Denver!
