Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade
Everyone tries to go green regarding the environment every day. But there's one day of the year where going green has a different connotation. And that day is St. Patrick's Day. You can celebrate this festive occasion in Denver by attending the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, which will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. The parade starts at the Coors Field parking lot in downtown. It continues on Wynkoop Street, turns onto 17th Street, and then heads down Blake Street, ending at 27th and Blake. The Grand Marshal will be singer/songwriter Jon Chandler, who was honored by the Western Writers of America with the 2009 Spur Award for Best Song ("Linwood"). That same year, True West Magazine bestowed upon Chandler the title "Best Living Western Musician." Other folks to keep an eye on during the parade are Aryana Jackson, who is this year's Queen Colleen, and Kally Johnston, Chelsea Peterson, and Danielle Sheehan who comprise her Court.

This version of the St. Patrick's Day Parade has been ongoing since 1963. The tradition actually began in 1889 and continued through 1921. However, for more than four decades, Denver had no parade to mark the day. And while many think that the city is responsible for putting on the parade, they are mistaken. The Denver St Patrick's Day Parade Committee, Inc., a group of civic-minded volunteers who share a deep passion for Irish culture, is the guiding force behind the annual event. The charitable group is dedicated to ensuring that each year there are many sponsors to help with financing. This year's sponsors include Mickey's Top Sirloin, Colorado Hair Company, Sons of the American Legion, Colorado Parrothead Club, and the Fainting Goat Pub.
