What may have originally began as a day for Xcel Energy employees has since grown into a statewide effort. Now, hundreds of individuals will come together to help their local communities by volunteering this September. They will team up with Denver Parks & Recreation, Xcel Energy, and CBS4 for a day of service to help keep Colorado parks lively and beautiful.
The volunteer event begins Saturday, September 7th. From 9:00am until noon, family, co-workers, neighbors, and friends will team up hand-in-hand to mulch trees, remove shrub beds, weed perennial beds, paint, and edge sidewalks. Those 9 years of age and older can participate in the statewide effort including communities such as Boulder, Evergreen, Westcreek, and Breckenridge.
For those in the Denver area, Denver Parks & Recreation will provide all the tools and materials needed for volunteers; just make sure to grab a water bottle, work gloves, and sturdy footwear before you go. Around 250 total volunteers will meet at Silverman Park to kick off the event in Denver; it's sure to be a day of giving back and lending a helping hand.
In all, Colorado houses close to 50 state parks and more than 300 wildlife areas, ranking among the top four in the country. With its abundant greenery and unforgettable scenery, it comes as no surprise that this all-day community effort helps with the upkeep of these irreplaceable areas.
